”And he alone is the leader and source of everything needed in the church. God has put everything beneath the authority of Jesus Christ and has given him the highest rank above all others. And now we, his church, are his body on the earth and that which fills him who is being filled by it!“
The footnotes in The Passion Translation explain it this way -- that as we are filled or completed by Christ, we also complete or fill Him. And for anyone who has been walking with the Lord for even a short period of time knows -- this is not a one time filling. This is not a one time completion. In order for us to be able to reflect the Lord well, in order for us to respond to situations and people and just daily life with spiritual instincts instead of natural/human instincts, we must be continually filled by Holy Spirit. And isn’t it beautiful to know that our continual filling by the Holy Spirit brings fulfillment, brings satisfaction to the Lord? It reminds me of John 15:5 which says, I am the sprouting vine and you’re my branches. As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you -- but when you live separated from me you are powerless.
And indeed we are powerless without Him. But with Him all things are possible. So be filled an united with Holy Spirit today, so you can do the impossible.
