People can spot a hypocrite from a mile a way. Many people have left churches and have even left the faith because of the hypocrisy they’ve seen and experienced in the church or in the lives of believers outside of the church. As Christians we are called to not only love but to demonstrate our love through actions. And because we are not perfect people -- we all have moments and circumstances where we mess up and moments that genuinely do make us hypocrites. This is why humility is absolutely necessary- because what brings healing and resolution to those times when our actions don’t align with love and don’t align with who we are is the humility to admit when we’re wrong and ask for forgiveness-- not just from God but from the people who we hurt. Repentance is a gift, because it is the key to restoring us back to right alignment -- both with God and with people. And the humility to ask for forgiveness is key to demonstrating true love in action, because true love seeks forgiveness and reconciliation.
