”The Lord is my revelation-light to guide me along the way, and he’s the source of my salvation to defend me every day. I fear no one! I’ll never turn back and run from you, Lord; surround and protect me. When evil ones come to destroy me, they will be the ones who turn back. My heart will not be afraid even if an army rises to attack. I know that you are there for me, so I will not be shaken. Here’s the one thing I crave from God, the one thing I seek above all else: I want the privileged of living with him every moment in his house, finding the sweet loveliness of his face, filled with awe, delighting in his glory and grace. I want to live my life so close to him that he takes pleasure in my every prayer.“
David gives us an example here to live so close to the Lord, so focused on the Lord that even enemy attacks or threats could not shake him. The Lord trained David for leadership in the fields protecting the sheep and as he lived in exile and on the run from Saul for years -- among many outcasts who he trained to become mighty men. David understood that the place of peace is not determined by external circumstances. It is determined by our relationship with the Lord and our nearness to Him. Let this be an encouragement to all of us to press more into the Lord, to lessen our focus on the stresses, the pressures and even the threats that surround us. Let’s be more impressed by the bigness of God than the bigness of whatever it is that is coming against us. As the Lord grows bigger in our sight - as we magnify the Lord, the situations we face shrink by comparison. He is more than able to handle, change, transform and completely resolve all that comes our way. And even if He doesn’t change a thing about what we’re facing His super abundant grace will be there to strengthen us and bring us through to other side.
