”Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ. Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.“
This is such a grounding scripture. I know for us the last few weeks and especially even the last few days of this legislative session have been more demanding than I anticipated. We expect things to be winding down, and new challenges and surprises show up that need quick and strategic responses. It can be so easy to feel like we are being pulled in different directions, and we can lose our peace when we focus on the problems or the never ending to-do list and our need to act instead of focusing on the Lord and His sufficiency. This scripture is a great reminder to me to keep focused on the Lord, on truth, on His faithfulness and all that He has accomplished and is accomplishing. As we focus on Him, He will calm our hearts and minds. He will fill us with His wonderful peace. This passage is also a great reminder to me to not get so wrapped up in the work that I neglect to celebrate the victories and give God the glory. Celebrating is an act of worship.
