“He will care for the needy and neglected when they cry to him for help. The humble and helpless will know his kindness, for with a father’s compassion he will save their souls. They will be rescued from tyranny and torture, for their lifeblood is precious in his eyes. Long live this King! May the wealth of the world be laid before him. May there be ceaseless praise and prayer to him. May all the blessing be brought to him. Bless us with a bountiful harvest, with golden grain swaying on the mountain fields! May the cities be full of praising people, fruitful and filled— so that his name may be honored forever! May the fame of his name spring forth! May it shine on, like the sunshine! In him all will be blessed to bless others, and may all the people bless the One who blessed them.”
Psalm 72 in The Passion Translation is called the Righteous King, and it’s the last Psalm of David. In it David is recounting the goodness, righteousness and justice of God and he speaks of the Lord as the highest example for how a king should conduct himself. He show us a picture of how when the people submit fully to the Lord and offer their all to Him, His reign as the righteous King brings blessing and prosperity to the people. And it becomes a virtuous cycle of the people honoring the Lord and the Lord blessing the people and causing them to be prosperous. This is something that I know many of you have been praying for. Let’s keep praying for our state and our nation to fully yield to the Lord, fully return to the Lord and serve Him faithfully so that we can live in peace and prosperity.
